Flylab is a biochemistry laboratory within the School of Molecular Cell Biology at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University). The main research areas are innate immunity and apoptosis. Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) is the key model organism used, and the African indigenous dung beetle Euniticellus intermedius is also used to study aspects of innate immunity. Projects apply a wide variety of skills, including molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics, genetics and core protein biochemistry.

Flylab welcomes researchers in these disciplines for M. Sc, PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellowships.
